Word, moment and time
When i was chatting with my old classmate on facebook , she is in Zimbabwe. She reminded me about something she once told me in high school. She said, ''Petros i remember when i used to mock you and used to say bad things about you, now you are a better person compared to me, at least you are now pursuing your degree, i have been following your articles and i can see your progress, awards you have been getting and as for me all i have now is a 1 and half year old baby boy, single parent in that matter, i regret every word i said, moment and time i wasted. i wish i could get a chance to start over again".
I remember one day when i lost in quiz competition back in high school, she started laughing with her friends in front of me, and said, "you little boy do you think you can do anything in life" and that time i think i was one of the 3 shortest students in our class if not in the whole stream..
It's a lesson that we can all learn from it. Three things you cannot recover in life: the WORD after it’s said, the MOMENT after it’s missed and the TIME after it’s gone. Be Careful! CHOOSE your words wisely, EMBRACE every moment you have with those you love, and NEVER waste time arguing over things that will not matter in the last 5 minutes of your life.
Firstly, You can never get back the words you have spoken. It is possible to “undo” some of the things you have done, but you can never “unsay” the things you have said. That’s what makes words so powerful. That’s what makes angry words so destructive, and untrue words so demoralizing. It’s also what makes kind and encouraging words such a healing force. The next time you inhale and part your lips to speak, remember: you are writing what you are saying on the hearts of the listener. And once written, your words can never be erased.
Someone once said, "Be mindful when it comes to your words. A string of some that don't mean much to you, may stick with someone else for a lifetime." and another one said, "Words are seeds that do more than blow around. They land in our hearts and not the ground. Be careful what you plant and careful what you say. You might have to eat what you planted one day."
Dear reader if you understood the power of your thoughts, you would guard them more closely. If you understood the awesome power of your words, you would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In your thoughts and words, you create your own weaknesses and your own strengths. Your limitations and joys begin in your hearts. You can always replace negative with positive.
Secondly, You can never get back your neglected opportunities. Granted, other opportunities may come back in a familiar form. But doors of opportunity are only open for a season. And those doors will eventually close – either behind you or before you. The only difference is where you are standing when it closes. The roads to hell, heartache, and hopelessness have been paved with the sad words, “If only.”
Lastly, You can never get back the time you have wasted. That’s why the Bible talks about “redeeming the time.” Have you ever wondered why the days seem to go by faster as we get older? Maybe it’s because age teaches us to recognize how short life ultimately is, and how much of our time has been wasted. Ralph Waldo Emerson (I think) said it a long time ago: “Only put off for tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.”
Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.” ~ M. Scott Peck
We can’t change our past, but we can choose our destiny.
You can’t look into a bright future if your eyes are still filled with tears from the past.
